Mixtape Hero Privacy Policy
In Simple Terms
Mixtape Hero, operated by Mixtape Hero LLC, collects what it needs to run music games with your friends, keep the app working, and make it better. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
What We Collect
- Account Information: Your name, email address, and profile picture when you sign up, plus anything you add to your profile, like a bio or pronouns.
- Music Service Connections: When you connect a music streaming service such as Spotify or Apple Music, we store the access tokens that service gives us so we can search for songs and create playlists on your behalf. We never receive your password for that service.
- Game Content: The groups and games you create or join, the songs you submit, your votes, comments, and chat messages. Other players in your group or game can see this content.
- Payments: Purchases are processed by Stripe. We receive a record of what you bought, but your card details go directly to Stripe and are never stored by us.
- Notifications: If you turn on push notifications, we store a push subscription for your device so we can send you game reminders and updates. You can change your notification preferences in your settings at any time.
- Usage and Diagnostic Information: When you use the app we record actions such as creating a game, submitting songs, and voting, along with the pages you visit, your browser and device type, approximate location derived from your IP address, and error and performance information.
- Session Recordings: We may record how you interact with the app (for example, clicks, scrolling, and page changes) so we can find and fix confusing or broken parts of the app. Text you type into forms is masked before it leaves your browser, and recordings are deleted after 30 days.
How We Use It
- To run the app: signing you in, running games and rounds, building playlists, and showing your content to the people you play with
- To send the reminders and notifications you've asked for
- To process purchases
- To understand how the app is used, fix bugs, and decide what to improve
- To test new features with some players before releasing them to everyone
- To keep the app secure and prevent abuse
Who We Share It With
We share information only with the service providers that help us run Mixtape Hero, and only for that purpose. Each provider's name links to its own privacy policy.

We may also share information if required by law, or as part of a merger or sale of the business, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
- Essential: A session cookie keeps you signed in, and a theme cookie remembers your light or dark mode choice.
- Analytics: When you first load a page, PostHog sets a first-party cookie containing a random identifier and saves related settings in your browser's local storage, so that your visits can be connected over time. Before you sign in the identifier is anonymous. Once you sign in, it is linked to your account. If your device is set to a European time zone, we ask for your permission first, and nothing is collected or stored until you accept.
Where Your Information Is Stored
Mixtape Hero and our service providers store information in the United States. If you use the app from outside the United States, your information will be transferred there.
How Long We Keep It
We keep your account information and game content for as long as your account is active. Session recordings are deleted after 30 days.
When you delete your account, we immediately delete your sign-in account (including your email address) and developer tokens, your name, bio, pronouns, and profile photo, your badges, your music service connections, your notification preferences, any invitations you've sent that haven't been used, your chat messages and reactions, the comments on your songs and votes, and your direct message conversations. You'll no longer be able to sign in.
So that games you played in keep their standings, we keep an anonymous placeholder for you in those groups and games, shown as "Former Player". The songs and votes you shared stay where they are, without their comments, and are attributed to that placeholder, which is no longer linked to your name, email address, or profile. Usage information we've already collected stays with our analytics provider, tied only to a random account identifier that no longer links back to you. We may also keep information we need to meet legal obligations, such as payment records.
Your Choices and Rights
- Access and Correction: You can view and edit your profile in the app at any time.
- Disconnect Music Services: You can disconnect a music streaming service from your settings, which deletes the stored access tokens.
- Deletion: You can delete your account at any time from the Profile tab of your settings. See "How Long We Keep It" above for what is deleted. If you can't sign in, contact support@mixtapehero.app and we'll delete it for you.
- Copy of Your Data: You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Opting Out of Analytics: You can turn off analytics and session recordings in this browser at any time with the Cookie settings button on the Profile tab of your settings, or ask us to stop collecting them for your account by contacting support@mixtapehero.app. Many browser privacy tools and ad blockers will also block them.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law. Contact us and we'll help.
Children
Mixtape Hero is not intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes via email or through the app. Your continued use of Mixtape Hero after changes means you accept the updated policy.
